I enjoy reading very early letters. One from India written in 1833 particularly interested me. It was very expensive to send a letter in those days, as you paid for each page, so people wrote horizontally and vertically on the same page. This one was written like that which made it very difficult to read. However it eventually became clear that this young man was planning to marry the young lady he was writing to, although it seemed they had never met. This was because he had been thrilled by a miniature portrait which had been sent to him. I decided to find out what happened to them. It soon became clear that their story was both dramatic and intriguing and should be written down. ‘Mitty’s Letter’ is the first book of the Mitty trilogy and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
